There are TWO main resources that you will need during
your college career that are related to Financial Aid:
- The Free Application for Federal
Student Aid Website
- The Financial Aid Office at your school.
FAFSA forms are something that should be filled
out BEFORE you leave for school. The deadline is usually at the beginning
of JULY. The FAFSA forms can be completed online.
These are very time consuming, so make sure to have all the documents necessary
before you begin.
From the data you enter into the FAFSA application,
your Financial Aid eligibility will be determined. From this, your college
will award you NEED-BASED Financial Aid. You will probably need some assistance
from your parents when you are filling out the FAFSA application.
Your Financial Aid Office can be your best friend,
or your worst enemy. Each academic semester, you will be required to stop
by the Financial Aid office with certain forms and information so that your
Financial Aid continues throughout your education. If you do NOT update your
information, your Financial Aid may STOP. Be aware that they can stop giving
you Financial Aid at their discretion, if you do not follow the proper procedures.
The Financial Aid office also holds lots of information
about how to increase your Financial Aid and apply for more scholarships
and financial assistance. Befriend the workers in this office, and graduate
with less debt!
